Motunrayo Tosin-Oni

PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G4, Political Analysis)

Motunrayo Tosin-Oni received a BA in English with a minor in Public Health from UCLA in 2018. Before joining the Harvard Community, she served as the health policy intern in the DC Office of Senator Dianne Feinstein. She then worked as a legislative aide in both the California State Senate and the Assembly. In these capacities, Motunrayo helped draft legislative language and analyzed bills before they were signed into law. She worked on several antipoverty, equity, and justice measures and managed monumental, first-in-the-nation pieces of legislation; including the CROWN Act, which protected natural hair textures from discrimination in schools and workplaces; and SB 464, which addressed the ways health provider biases negatively impact Black maternal health by requiring implicit bias training for all perinatal health providers -both of which are now California law. Motunrayo is a member of the 2021 cohort of Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Research Scholars. Her research interests lie at the intersection of health equity and community-focused policies, focusing on the ways legislative and institutional policies alleviate or exacerbate health disparities among vulnerable populations.
