Overview

Alecia J. McGregor, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Politics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Her research focuses on the political determinants of health inequities, including the role of racism in health policy development, health system design, and health care outcomes (with a focus on maternal health). Dr. McGregor takes an interdisciplinary approach to analyzing politics and health policy, investigating how institutions shape the life chances of people from vulnerable communities. Her current research explores the relationship between obstetric unit closures and maternal health disparities in the U.S.

Dr. McGregor's work has been published in a diverse range of social science journals including the Dubois Review, the Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology MFM, International Journal of Drug Policy, and the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved.

Her research has been featured in leading media outlets including National Public Radio, USA Today, NBC News, and PBS.

In her spare time, she can be found walking her dog Kingston, dancing to hip hop, house, and reggae, and learning about foodways of the African Diaspora.
