S. Skye Yoden

PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G1, Decision Sciences)

S. Skye Yoden graduated with B.A.'s in International Studies and Psychology, and a B.S. in Economics, from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. A former member of the Penn Lab of Evolutionary Experimental Psychology, Skye's early research focused on game theory, risk perception and its influence on behavior. Cross-cultural research in Senegal exposed Skye to specific challenges around risk perception in health in low-resource settings. This catalyzed a ten-year journey in global health where Skye worked across foundations, local non-profits, international non-profits and management consulting. Skye has published a number of articles, including in Vaccine and PLoS One, all of which explore the value of various health interventions in low-resource settings. Most recently, Skye served as Executive Director for the Digital Square initiative, which focused on scaling high-value digital interventions in systems where they could help increase health equity. Skye's current research interests include how individuals and institutions think about proximate versus long-term benefits and costs, and how cost-benefit tools can be used to increase equity in health systems. Outside of health policy, Skye is a dedicated alpinist, creative writer and Board Chair for Splash, a non-profit dedicated to improving water, sanitation and hygiene in schools throughout the world.
