PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G5, Methods for Policy Research)

Bijan Niknam attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude in 2011 with a BS in Economics with a Health Care Management concentration, and a BA in International Studies & Business and in Russian. Upon graduation he joined the Center for Outcomes Research at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, working with Professor Jeffrey H. Silber. While at COR, he contributed to numerous studies of health care system performance, touching on disparities in cancer survival and surgical outcomes, surgeon training paradigms and patient outcomes, hospital nursing environments and outcomes, and customizable methods for hospital quality measurement. At Harvard, he has continued developing and applying modern matching methods to assess racial and geographic disparities in post-acute care utilization and quality, while also developing an interest in weighting methods and other adjustment frameworks for causal inference. In his spare time, Bijan enjoys cooking, bowling, and watching as much cricket as he possibly can.
