Bijan Niknam

PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G4, Methods for Policy Research)

Bijan Niknam attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude in 2011 with a BS in Economics with a Health Care Management concentration, and a BA in International Studies & Business and in Russian. Upon graduation he joined the Center for Outcomes Research at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, working with Professor Jeffrey H. Silber. During his time at COR, he helped design and execute numerous studies evaluating the quality and efficiency of the health care system, including clarifying the factors driving racial and socioeconomic disparities in cancer survival and surgical outcomes, the relationship between surgeon training paradigms and patient outcomes, and development of cross-hospital quality measurement techniques that can be tailored to specific types of patients. At Harvard, he has continued applying modern matching methods in Medicare data to assess quality of care and disparities in outcomes, especially across hospitals and in post-acute care settings.
