Ilana Salant received her bachelor’s degree in 2016 in Economics from Barnard College. While attending Barnard, Ilana interned at the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Economics, where she worked with Dr. Thomas Koch and his coauthors on retrospective analyses of mergers between hospitals (or hospital systems) and physician groups. Through this experience, she first developed an interest in the intersection of health economics and industrial organization. After graduating from Barnard, she pursued her master’s degree in economics at the Toulouse School of Economics, graduating summa cum laude and specializing in the Economics of Markets and Organizations. Prior to joining Harvard, Ilana was a pre-doctoral research fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, where she has supported Professor Maria Polyakova and her coauthors on a project that seeks to understand the lifetime return to practicing medicine by linking administrative tax data with data on physicians and their specialties.
