J. Wyatt Koma is a PhD candidate (G2) in the program of health policy, with a concentration in political analysis. He is interested in research that assesses how policies affect the health of socially disadvantaged populations, including low-income families, people of color, and LGBTQ people. He is also interested in applying advanced quantitative and quasi-experimental methods to inform health policy decision-making. Wyatt’s work has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, including Medical Care, LGBT Health, the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, and Health Affairs.

Wyatt holds a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh. As an undergraduate, he developed his interest in health policy research by interning at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the FACETS Program, where he worked with Professors Meredith Rosenthal, Sara Bleich, Anna Sinaiko, among others. At Pitt, he also worked with Marian Jarlenski on several peer-reviewed journal articles which analyzed substance use among low-income adults. Wyatt spent four years at the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), where he conducted policy analysis and data analysis using large, national survey data to answer questions about access to care, out-of-pocket spending, and health care disparities among people with Medicare.
