Karen Smith

PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G4, Decision Sciences)

Karen Smith graduated summa cum laude from Amherst College in 2015 with a BA in biology and French. Following graduation, she worked for three years as a research assistant at the Orthopedic and Arthritis Center for Outcomes Research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. While at the Brigham, Karen was the project coordinator for the Osteoarthritis Policy Model, an NIH-funded computer simulation model of knee osteoarthritis. Her current research focuses on cardiovascular disease policy modeling, hypertension treatment guidelines, and cost-ineffective health care. Karen’s research in the PhD program is supported by the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program.
