Peter Wilschke

PhD Candidate in Health Policy (G1, Economics)

Peter Wilschke graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2024 with BAs in Economics and Political Science. As an undergraduate, he spent a summer at the University of Chicago’s Leadership Alliance program where he studied the impact of the repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate and later worked at the Hilltop Institute on an NSF-funded project exploring newly available hospital price transparency data. After graduating, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Federal Reserve Board, in the Flow of Funds section. During that time, he submitted a winning NSF Graduate Research Fellowship proposal to examine the consequences of state-funded reinsurance programs in the Affordable Care Act individual marketplaces. Peter's current research interests include the market structure and industrial organization of the health care industry, the economics of health insurance, and the design and consequences of payment systems for medical services.
